FHD4 Series MTP/MPO Cassettes Module Solution

What Is Modular MTP/MPO Cassettes?

MTP Cassette, as an easy-to-install and cost-effective plug-and-play cable management solution in today’s fiber optic cable patching system, is used to interconnect MTP backbones with LC or SC patching. Providing secure transition between MTP and LC or SC discrete connectors, they allow for rapid deployment of data center infrastructure as well as improved troubleshooting and reconfiguration during MACs (moves, adds and changes) by being mounted in 1U or 4U 19″ multi-slot chassis.

MTP cassettes and cable assemblies take their name from the MPO/MTP connector, designed and introduced as a performance version of MPO connectors. MTP fiber systems are truly an innovative group of products. Each MTP connector contains 12 fibers or 6 duplex channels in a connector that is smaller than most duplex connections in use today.

MPO was the first generation of multi-fiber connectors designed by NTT. MTP connectors, however, are a superior style of MPO connector. Using the MTP connector, compatible with round, stranded cable, has benefits compared to rectangular ribbon cable terminations without sacrificing high density, such as eliminating preferential bends, better aramid yarn distribution during assembly, easier routing during long cable length installation, and generally lower cable cost. The connector design has been fully qualified for multimode and single mode applications according to standard industry requirements.

A standard MTP Cassettes have one port in the back with a MTP coupler awaiting connection of an MTP cable assembly that has 12 fibers in the connector. The MTP cable plugs into the back and through the adaptor. The cable connects to another MTP assembly inside the cassette that “fans out” to 12 SC or LC connections. One MTP cable can connect up 12 different ports! From there you plug in your patch cables and you’re good to go.

Common MTP/MPO Fiber Cassettes Types Overview

FHD4 Series MTP/MPO Cassette

This plug and play MPO/MTP cassettes fits our FHD4-1U and 4U rack chassis up to capacity 288 Fibers, perfect for ultra high density fiber connectivity for data centers or server rooms. FHD4 Series MTP/MPO Cassette is designed for the secure transition between MPO and LC discrete connectors. It’s suitable for high-density backplane and data center cabling which offers excellent benefits in terms of on-site installation time and space saving. This Fiber Optic Cassette Module kit includes 1x pre-terminated MPO-24 to 12x LC Duplex 50/125 10G OM3 fiber optic harness cable, an MPO adapter in back, 12x LC duplex adapters in the front and the cassette module that the fiber is routed and connected inside of it. The MPO cassette module is built with high-quality components to ensure overall network reliability. This compact and modular MPO cassette module provide you a quick, reliable, high performance and efficient way to deploy up to 12x LC duplex fiber ports pairs in a single module, allowing for maximum density in limited spaces. The cassette module can be mounted in 1U, 2U, 3U or 4U 19 multi-slot MPO fiber panel or enclosure.

MTP Conversion Cassettes

In fact, besides the MPO/MTP-LC cassettes mentioned above, there exists another type of MPO/MTP cassettes. That is MPO/MTP-MPO/MTP fiber cassettes. MPO/MTP conversion cassettes are loaded with 8, 12 or 24 fibers and have MPO or MTP adapters on the both front and rear side.

MPO/MTP Fiber Cassettes Use Case

Using MTP cassettes provides adaptability for the changing data center environment. Facing technology refresh frequencies of 12-18 months, Plug & Play MTP fiber cassettes used in the data center offer a great advantage. When connector requirements change in the future, simply swap the cassettes whilst leaving the existing backbone infrastructure intact. MTP to LC cassettes are a quick and efficient way of deploying MTP connector breakout. Taking the FHD MTP-24 cassette for an example, the following are two application scenes for MTP to LC cassettes.

Type A and AF MTP fiber cassettes are used as a pair in a two cassette method A link to achieve the 25G-25G interconnect. The Type A MTP to LC fiber cassettes is installed in FHD 1U rack mount fiber enclosure, and Type AF MTP to LC fiber optical cassette is placed on one FHD 1U rack mount modular enclosure. Then, one 24 fibers MTP trunk cable connects the two MTP cassettes. This 25G-25G interconnect solution is ideal for data centre (HDA-EDA), backbone cabling and cable management.

Type A and AF MTP fiber cassettes are used as a pair in 10G-10G interconnection. One is deployed in an FHD rack mount fiber enclosure, and the other one is installed in FHD wall mount fiber optic enclosure. This is suitable for backbone cabling, security monitoring cabling and campus network.
